Windows 10 Performance Index – how to evaluate

Guides

Many people have heard about the performance index of the operating system windows, but everyone does not fully understand how exactly this assessment works and what it is made up of. In Widows 7 it was available in the system information window, and in Windows 8 the score disappeared altogether, but the check functionality remains, it just needs to be run manually. In the new ten, the system is a little different, updated. About how to check the performance of a computer running Windows 10 and where the UI is located in general, in this material.

Windows 10 performance index – what is this indicator and what is it for

Before considering ways to know the performance of your system, it is necessary to understand what is the performance evaluation of winds 10. This figure itself denotes quite a specific parameter, which allows you to understand how fast a personal computer or laptop running winds operating system can perform certain operations.

To know which parameter to zoom in on, you need to check
The UI is measured with special system diagnostics that test each hardware module for interaction with the software and give the result in the form of a score. If in Windows 7 it ranged from 1 to 7.9 points, in the ten it became more wide and accurate: from 1 to 9.9 points.

You can also see the total value – the final system score. This indicator is not the arithmetic average of all scores (their sum divided by the number), but takes the lowest score. Most often the most productive is the hard disk, and the weakest is the processor.

Note!  The Windows 10 computer performance test is needed to understand how fast your PC is and how optimized it is. If any indicator is significantly lower than others, then lags and crashes of the OS may occur because of it. In that case, it needs to be changed.

The performance index allows you to measure the load on major hardware components

How to find out the operating system IP

According to”Microsoft” corporation, the performance index is supposed to make the process of buying programs and games much easier, or rather their choice. By idea on any disk with game or program for vindovs should be an icon with the parameters of performance index, which is required for the correct and comfortable work of the application. If the minimum parameter on the user’s computer is more than necessary, then the software product can be bought, and it will definitely not slow down.

Optimizing Windows 10 for better performance

If you need an office PC, which will perform the simplest arithmetic operations, store text and table files, then you should choose hardware with indices from 2 to 3. This is quite enough, and you do not have to overpay.

In Windows 7 and older versions of the popular OS family the performance index was displayed in the general system information window. There you could also calculate it using a graphical interface. In 10 it is no longer there, but that does not mean that it has disappeared completely.

For the record!  Performance score in Windows 10, as well as some earlier versions of the OS, exists, but not as a separate graphical component. This score can only be seen through third-party applications that will access the system or through the command line.

Ways to test in Windows 10

Windows PowerShell: What it is

In general, there are quite a few ways to test PC performance in Windows 10. As already mentioned, they are based on the use of the console or third-party applications. The most popular viewing tools are:

    • !-6-!! command line;

!-6-!! PowerShell;

  • WinSAT program;

Winaero WIE tool;

!-6-!! ExperienceIndexOK!

With Windows PowerShell

When it comes to built-in tools, there are only two: PowerShell and the standard command line. The first one provides more advanced functionality for the operating system and individual scripts. Everybody knows about scripting support. CMD does not have this capability.

The step by step instructions on how to view the performance index in PowerShell is as follows:

  1. Go to the Start menu and type”PowerShell” in the search bar.
  2. Right click on the program found.
  3. Select”Run as administrator” from the context menu.
  4. Wait for the terminal window to open which differs from the command line as it has a different background color and letters.
  5. Write or paste command”winsat formal”.
  6. Wait until testing is finished. This usually takes one to two minutes.
  7. Go to the system directory at C:WindowsPerformanceWinSATDataStore.
  8. Open the file Formal.Assessment (Recent).WinSAT.xml. It will run in your browser, which is configured by default to open documents in XML format.
  9. Find the”WinSPR” section and look in it for all the performance indices and the overall score obtained from the smallest index.

Checking with the Power Shell utility

In the command line terminal

The same way you can look through all the data and test the hardware parts of your computer also via the CMD command line:

  1. Go to”Start” menu or”Run” window (by combination of”Win + R”) and in the first case type in”Command Prompt” or”cmd”, and in the second case -“cmd.exe”.
  2. One clicks on the program to start it and waits.
  3. Enter the command”winsat formal -restart clean”. It can also be used without flag”restart clean”, but then after completion of the counting operation the window will remain filled with various messages.
  4. Waiting for the end of the verification process, which can be observed in the black window of the console.
  5. Go to the system directory at C:WindowsPerformanceWinSATDataStore.
  6. Open the file Formal.Assessment (Recent).WinSAT.xml. It will run in a browser that is configured by default to open documents in XML format.
  7. Find the”WinSPR” section and look at all the performance indices in it, as well as the total score obtained from the smallest index.

Note!  The first and second ways are almost identical, but use different terminals to process the request. Some people will be more comfortable to use the shell, and some people are used to working on the command line all their lives. The result will be the same.

You can also see the results at the command line

Using WinSAT

WinSAT is a simple and completely free utility in Russian which allows you to quickly determine the performance index of Windows 10. It looks like the graphic tester from Windows 7. You even do not need to install it.

Pay attention!  The only thing to consider is the performance rating system. Here it remains from the seven. That means that grades count from 1 to 7.9 and not from 1 to 9.9. There is no need to be afraid of this.

Using the program is easy:

  1. Download WinSAT from the developers’ official website.
  2. Find the downloaded archive in the download folder and open it.
  3. Run the executable file WSAT.exe by double clicking on it with the left mouse button.
  4. The program will start and immediately begin testing the system in a separate window.
  5. To retest, click the link at the top of the screen.
  6. To see other information about the system, click on the three dots icon.

Checking Windows 10 performance index in Winaero WIE tool

A similar free and easy to use program designed to evaluate the system performance index. It is already newer and is capable of counting from 1 to 9.9 points. Like WinSAT, it does not need to be installed on your hard drive. You just need to open it and start using it. How to do this is explained in the following instructions:

  1. Find the official site of the application’s developer and go to it.
  2. Download the latest version of the program by clicking on”Download Winaero WEI tool”.
  3. Wait until the download is completed, which will go quickly, because the archive does not weigh much.
  4. Open or unpack the archive.
  5. Run executable file WEI.exe.
  6. Wait for the end of the test, which the program starts immediately at startup.
  7. Read the results of the analysis and exit the application.

Important!  To retest it is necessary to click on the button”Rerun the assessment”. To save the results as a screenshot, you need to click on the icon in the form of a camera and select the place to save the picture.

Winaero WIE tool interface completely replicates the graphics in windows 7

The ExperienceIndexOK utility

Another totally free utility that requires no pre-installation to use it (Portable). It does the same thing: it evaluates the performance of the operating system Windows 10 with special tools. Like the previous version, it counts the index from 1 to 9.9 points, which is convenient for users of ten, because their system recalculates in the same way. The interface of the application completely repeats the graphic design of the system information window on Windows 7. All you need to get the right values:

  1. Go to the official site and download the program according to the standard scheme.
  2. Run the executable file, or unpack the archive with it if the software was in ZIP or RAR format.
  3. Wait till the checking process is finished and it will take some time.
  4. View the final index, which is taken from the smallest value.

Pay attention!  A feature of the program is the ability to save the results of the check in a screenshot. It can be uploaded to a file or copied to the clipboard for pasting into MS Paint.
